Media Excentrique began life in 1999 when Warren Speed launched Growling Clown Entertainment in Newcastle Upon Tyne.  Back then the company primarily produced and promoted live events in nightclubs, music venues and theatres … including the popular variety show ‘Cabaret Excentrique’, the chain of stand-up comedy shows under the name ‘Funny Bones Comedy Clubs’, and the peculiar freakshow clubnight ‘House of the Golden Lotus’.  All three of these events ran for a number of years in various locations throughout the North of England.

In those early days Warren also worked as a booking agent for a number of comedians including people such as Sarah Millican, Alan Carr, Jason Manford, Steffen Peddie and Patrick Monahan – all of whom have gone on to much bigger things.

These days, Media Excentrique have shifted their focus to making films, as well as still running a number of club nights in central Newcastle - Grindhouse (rock/metal), Gearbox (goth/new wave/alt 80s), Rudeness (ska/punk/rockabilly) and Loveadelic (70s disco/funk) ....

Growling Clown Entertainment were also responsible for running the Newcastle Gateshead comedy festival for three years from 2008 - 2010, bringing household names such as Davey Johns, Rhod Gilbert, Reginald D Hunter, Phill Jupitus and Mickey Flanagan to venues in the twin cities.

2010 was also the year Warren and his company released their first feature film ... the shamelessly trashy B-Movie 'Zombie Women of Satan which was released worldwide on DVD and created quite a stir when it played at the Cannes Film Festival the same year. The movie also aired on the UK and US Horror TV channels.

In 2016 a sequel was released (re-titled to "Female Zombie Riot" by the American distributor) - which amongst others featured Pete Bennett (from "Big Brother") and Mike Fielding (from "The Mighty Boosh") .

2016 also saw the release of the 80 minute mockumentary 'Clown Panic' - loosely based on the genuine killer clown scares in Britain and America.

‘Coulrophobia’ - the company’s fourth feature length movie was released in November 2017, and is a much darker movie than Warren’s earlier two zombie films. It tells the tale of a group of kick-ass roller derby girls who go camping in the remote Scottish highlands, only to be abducted by a crazy family of ex-circus performers and forced to take part in a series of gruesome challenges to stay alive.  Website Dread Central and Empire magazine both described it as “A film Rob Zombie might have made”.

Late 2017 also saw the release of Warren’s 150 minute documentary about latex clothing and alternative models, and as with all of the other films Warren and his team have made, this one is available on DVD, Amazon Prime and other worldwide digital platforms. The documentary is in two parts and can be found under the title "Latex : Fetish or Fashion".

Besides their movies, Media Excentrique are responsible for the very popular monthly Grindhouse Rock Night (which launched in 2014), and the quarterly alternative 80s/goth night the "Gearbox Reboot" - both held in Newcastle Upon Tyne in Northumbria Uni at their fabulous 500 capacity Reds Bar venue.

Furthermore Media Excentrique produce professional standard music videos  – primarily for bands in the heavy metal and hard rock genres, but occasionally for bands of other styles.  We regularly shoot videos for many up and coming bands, and also more established groups such as Massive Wagons, New Generation Superstars, Fallen Mafia and Hand of Dimes.

In 2018 we launched a worldwide online rockshow called 'Degenerate TV', which features interviews by Warren with rock and metal bands, tattooists, stand-up comedians, alternative fashion designers, movie stars and directors ... as well as covering gigs, conventions and festivals ... basically "Everything A Metal Heads Loves !"  (Degenerate TV can be found on Facebook).

Media Excentrique currently have three feature films in development - "Heavy Metal Hell" (about an all-girl rock band and a bizarre stalker), "Perversity" (about a battle of wills, cruelty and lust between two serial killers and one of their "victims"), and "Vampire Nuns" an indecent B Movie comedy !!!

Our 75min documentary "Aliens At Loch Ness" has just been released on DVD and VOD.  With another - "UK Paranormal : UFO's, Cryptids and Hauntings" planned for release in early 2023.

We are currently in the process of filming four more documentaries too - one on the subject of burlesque, one about a haunted castle near Haltwhistle (Northumberland, UK), one about psychic mediums ... and one about the UK "swingers" scene !!

Further to this we are developing a theatre show about the history of burlesque and vaudeville.

So yes, we like to keep ourselves busy !!!
